This Ghanian Fante Statue has been hand carved by a master wood carver in Ghana. The doll hand been hand carved with engravings and finished with tiny glass beads around the neck and waist.

Size: 15” tall x 2”in wide.

About: The high forehead is a symbol of beauty and the neck rings depict creases cause by fat, which is a symbol of health. The body is shaped like a cross similar to the Kamitic symbol Djed (backbone), which represents stability.

Traditionally, Ashanti women would wear the Doll on her back in hopes of conceiving a child. Once the Doll has fulfilled it purpose, the mother will place it in her altar to worship or pass it down to the next generation. Mothers who have used the Doll will pass it down to her daughter in preparation of motherhood.
